1- Manipur has topped the rankings in Breastfeeding and Infant and Young Child Feeding Practices in the country. Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan released a report on Breastfeeding in New Delhi. Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar are at the bottom positions in the report card.

3-Government has sanctioned 5595 electric buses in 64 cities for intracity and intercity operations under the second phase of FAME India scheme. The first phase of FAME-India Scheme- Phase-I [Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India] was started from 1st April 2015.

5- Former President Pranab Mukherjee was on Thursday presented the country’s highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The 83-year-old former President also served as India’s Defence Minister, Finance Minister and External Affairs Minister in the past. Social activist Nanaji Deshmukh was honoured by Bharat Ratna posthumously.

6-Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu nominated BJP’s Rakesh Sinha as a member of the Press Council of India, as per reports.

7- The national sports awards for athletes and coaches this year will be decided by a single 12-member panel, which includes six-time boxing world champion Mary Kom and former football captain Bhaichung Bhutia. The awards will be given away on August 29, the birth anniversary of former hockey captain Major Dhyan Chand which is celebrated as the National Sports Day.

8-South African batsman Hashim Amla has retired from all international cricket with immediate effect. Amla played 124 Tests, 181 ODIs and 44 T20Is between in his 15-year-long cricketing career. He is the only South African to have scored a triple century in the Test format. He holds the record for being the fastest batsman to score 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000, 6,000 and 7,000 ODI runs.
